Back again with a rare Prestige/New Jazz rarity from the Modern Jazz Disciples! The Modern Jazz Disciples were a short lived Cincinnati based Soul Jazz combo with some interesting instrumentation. They only had a chance to record two sides, 'The Modern Jazz Disciples' and 'Right Down Front' on Prestige's subsidiary label New Jazz, of which the bulk is collected on this 2001 Fantasy CD reissue (Autumn Serenade from 'Right Down Front' is missing - can anyone help out with the cut from their original vinyl?). This is a nice and energetic collection which gives some glimpse of other Soul Jazz artists outside of the New York/West Coast axis of the early 1960s.

ReplyDeleteNot new for me, but I had only a 128k version of this very interesting sides. I confirm that most of these sides are from 1960 or 1959 (cf jazzdisco.org). Thanks a lot, hope to find the autumn serenade track that disappeared in the CD edition.
