Here's another classic Don Patterson Prestige organ trio side - Satisfaction! Essentially what you'd come to expect from Don - short and sweet - and the Rolling Stones cover is amusing. Also interesting is the presence of the great Jerry Byrd on guitar - a real jazz pro- who's still active these days.

This side has never been released on CD, but has circulated in the blogosphere - this is an upgraded version ripped from my original Prestige stereo vinyl - such classic Soul Jazz sides deserve no less.

Back again from a month long break with some Don Patterson Prestige Soul Jazz rarities! Up first - it's Soul Happening!  Lately I've become quite fascinated with Patterson, who recorded prodigiously for Prestige (18 leader sides!), but still remains quite underrated and unappreciated in the Soul Jazz canon.  It was said that Jimmy Smith considered Don the only threat to his organ jazz throne. A small modest cult of organ/soul Jazz fanatics today also admire Don intensely.

Prestige recorded him in a number of settings - but aside from his earliest collaborations with Booker Ervin - I think Patterson is at his best in the traditional organ trio setting (organ, guitar, drums) sans horns - so you can really focus on what he's doing on his B3. This side was never released on CD, but has circulated in the blogosphere before - here's a clean upgraded version, ripped from the original Mono vinyl in my collection.

Here's another amazing Prestige find from my collection - Clea Bradford with Oliver Nelson and Clark Terry! This is a New Jazz/Prestige Blue Trident reissue of Clea Bradford - These Dues - [Tru-Sound TRU 15005, already deleted by Fall 1963 according to my vintage Prestige Numerial Dealer Form] on Prestige's short lived R&B subsidiary. So not sure if this is an authentic Prestige/New Jazz date per se, but it's in the catalog for those Prestige completists/fanatics.

Bradford (short biography)  would later resurface with a 1968 side on Cadet and a monster cult Soul single of 'My Love's a Monster', but this is a very much low key and lost mainstream jazz vocal date accompanied by  jazz legends Nelson and Terry. Bradford sounds very similar to Lorez Alexandria to my ears... intriguing.

Back again with actual jazz vinyl rarities from my collection- first up a lost Prestige side from the Moodsville series: Dave Pike Plays The Jazz Version of Oliver!  At first glance the material for this side - the musical Oliver! - does not look promising for a jazz side. But the title is very deceptive - this is actually a very nice swinging vibes date -recommended!

This post will definitively wrap up my coverage of the Prestige International 13000 series  (finally!) , here's a very rare compilation from that series- Folk Songs For Children!  

Vinyl was in pretty rough shape [the orange label had stained the front cover as it was stored in someone's attic I assume  for some fifty years! ] and you may detect some unavoidable skips  - but there's some really rare, great and timeless Prestige folk recordings that deserve to be not forgotten...
