A little too much time spent on Argo on the blog? Well here's something a little bit different and a nice change of pace - a rarely heard side by the Dave Brubeck Quartet! This is a nice little live recording recorded at the Tropicana Hotel/Casino in 1965 Las Vegas! Perhaps not the ideal place for recording a live jazz album?!
As far as I can tell, this is the only Brubeck Columbia side never to have received a CD reissue anywhere in the world... Certainly the out of tune piano that Brubeck plays and the polite but disinterested crowd in the casino may have something to do with Columbia/Sony keeping this locked in the vaults - but this is still a vintage recording by the original quartet - but maybe on only a so so night.... I can never get tired of Paul Desmond though. Very good fidelity off the original Columbia stereophonic 360 vinyl which accounts for the weird/goofy/panned stereo mix.

Thanks so much for this one - has been on my wishlist.
