A little too much time spent on Argo on the blog? Well here's something a little bit different and a nice change of pace - a rarely heard side by the Dave Brubeck Quartet! This is a nice little live recording recorded at the Tropicana Hotel/Casino in 1965 Las Vegas! Perhaps not the ideal place for recording a live jazz album?!

As far as I can tell, this is the only Brubeck Columbia side never to have received a CD reissue anywhere in the world
... Certainly the out of tune piano that Brubeck plays and the polite but disinterested crowd in the casino may have something to do with Columbia/Sony keeping this locked in the vaults - but this is still a vintage recording by the original quartet - but maybe on only a so so night.... I can never get tired of Paul Desmond though. Very good fidelity off the original Columbia stereophonic 360 vinyl which accounts for the weird/goofy/panned stereo mix.

  1. Thanks so much for this one - has been on my wishlist.

However, seems that the RAR file is damaged - I can only extract one track. Anyone else have this problem?
