As promised, here's more Shirley Scott - this time one of her strongest sides on Impulse! - On A Clear Day! Much of Shirley's prodigious output on Impulse from 1963-67 were of the pop, latin and big band orientated variety (which I appreciate on their own merits, but Shirley is somewhat in the shadow of Oliver Nelson and Gary McFarland's nice arrangements) , but this side firmly showcases Shirley in a more traditional organ trio setup. She's in august company here - paired with a couple of veteran Miles sidemen - Ron Carter and Jimmy Cobb who provide some nice support. Another Shirley-Miles connection: when Shirley was first starting out in Philadelphia she used to play with Coltrane! Good fidelity off an early second pressing Impulse stereo vinyl.
