This is another gem from the Prestige Soul Jazz archives: Johnny Hammond Smith's The Stinger Meets The Golden Thrush! This is genius stuff - yes perhaps formulaic at times, but the Hammond groove is ever so appealing with nice contributions by Houston Person and Otis Sutton on horns. Although the jazz-blues singer Byrdie Green is credited here as co-leader of this side, it's a bit misleading as she only appears on 2 tracks,- A2 and B2. Extremely difficult to track down, this side has been little heard since its first release in 1966, and never released on CD. Solid fidelity (with some extraneous surface noise, unfortunately) off the original heavy Prestige stereo vinyl.
