I've been sitting on some more recently acquired Freddie McCoy Prestige rarities for some time now - quite unintentionally mind you - I'd simply forgot about them on my shelves of vinyl... Before I forget again, I've decided to burn off all three remaining rare and unavailable McCoy sides on the blog tonight!

Up first - 1967's Beans & Greens, one of McCoy's funnest and probably most pop-ish sides of his Prestige output. McCoy's Prestige sides for the most part follow a simple formula: McCoy originals/groovy Soul jazz numbers, straight ahead traditional jazz ballads which feature some of McCoy's most beautiful and gentle playing, and the nice but dated pop jazz covers of the current popular hits of the day (eg. Procol Harum, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes here). Track A1 - the title track grooves... I'm playing this at my next party! Strong fidelity off the original stereo vinyl in immaculate condition.

  2. If you take the pictures of the covers and back covers you should use the "white balance" control in your camera to get pure colour white not grey. Check the instruction manual of your camera.

  3. Great! The Funk Drops lp was always a nice sleeper, and I'm excited to hear the first one. If the jazz purists didn't like these, they'll detest Soul Yogi. Thanks for these!
