Back again with some more good stuff as promised as this blog shifts back to Argo-Cadet mode indefinitely. I've been building a stockpile of rare early Argos and later funky Cadets (Ray Bryant to come soon) for posting during these long summer months. Argo/Cadet jazz: perfect for summer!
However, we'll begin with a rare side by an Argo legend - James Moody with Strings! This side has long been on my crate digging radar. This is a fantastic and somewhat atypical strings/big band side. The arrangements and charts by Torrie Zito are refreshing and quite innovative as none of the strings feels like an afterthought. Moody as lead soloist on sax and flute plays well and truly interacts with the orchestra. This side is anything but schmaltzy! Solid fidelity off the beautiful original heavy Argo mono vinyl.
