This is perhaps the rarest record in my collection (measured in terms of actual scarcity, not monetary value) - Caesar Giovannini's Holiday on the Riviera! Information from the standard discographical sources was missing and incomplete, and there was even some doubt that this side was ever properly released. But I assure you now that it does indeed exist, giving hope that other missing Argos (674,675) may turn up one day.... So, finally exhilerated to have this in my collection, but the French themed mood music is perhaps underwhelming to some degree. Solid fidelity from this truly rare Argo vinyl.
Get it
A truly bizarre record for the Argo label! I don't know if I'll ever listen to it again but I did enjoy it on this warm, sunny afternoon.
ReplyDeleteDelighted to have this. Many thanks.

ReplyDeleteHa, you dug deep in the Argo barrel to come up with this one!
The regular 600 series did have some oddities (from a jazz viewpoint) before the 4000 series was started. Take Argo 616-619 for example, which I suspect don't contain much jazz.
As for the present album, I have seen it in the discographies, and always assumed that it was a non-jazz album. Listening to it confirmed that, but I certainly appreciate the effort of digging it up.
When I initially saw this album appear here, I thought "Can Smokey Stover be far away?" and indeed, soon he turned up too! :) Many thanks for all the precious non-CD rarities you dig up and present here. It is a valuable cultural deed.
The reason why we have ancient writings from the Greeks and Romans? Somebody took the time to copy the original manuscripts and spread them around.
ReplyDeleteThat's what your doing here on Sun Ship! The best way to fight oblivion is to spread it around.
Don't comment comment at every post. Some of these entries, the classy covers, just look so good they almost ache.
