Continuing my ongoing fascination with the Prestige label's historical and discographical oddities, this is a side of traditional Japanese koto music by Shinichi Yuize!
Certainly not jazz, but it's quite profound and beautiful music that deserves your attention. Perhaps the oddest and most unlikeliest title to ever surface in the main Prestige jazz 7000 series, it must have sold well originally in 1967, as it received a rare Fantasy repressing in the early seventies.
Get it
Subarashii! I love a bit of koto on a Sunday morning. This guy is one of the all-time top koto players. Shame the two Prestige lps have never been put out on a CD together (probably just over the 80min mark).
ReplyDeleteWell done for tracking this down & good luck with finding the other one!
Or should I say "Gokouun o inorimasu."
Unlikely indeed!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for this.
