Today I'll be definitively concluding my ongoing series on Prestige's forgotten early 60s ethnic folk recordings: the Prestige International 13000 and Near East 4500 series with a final gem - Peggy Seeger's A Song for You and Me! See overleaf for a bunch of surplus Prestige International sides that I burned off earlier- onwards and upwards back to Jazz!
I'm going a bit full circle here - I first became fascinated with Prestige's folk and world sides when I acquired the 1965 Prestige compilation Folk Songs with The Seegers last year. Acquiring this side was only ever for its catalog number (jazz collector OCD: must acquire everything in the 7300 series!) - but it's since become the Prestige Folk side that I listen to most regularly.
This particular recording is a long forgotten and tremendously obscure Peggy Seeger LP- recorded by Rudy Van Gelder and featuring Peggy solo, accompanied by her own instrumentation. As I once said before - this is less folk music, than timeless American root music.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great, great record! She was already an accomplished and adventurous singer/player at this age - really excellent selection of tunes. Many thanks! MB
